About this activity

Head off the typical tourist trail—and discover the best of Montenegro, with just a private guide for company—on this full-day tour from Dubrovnik. You can look forward to visiting the UNESCO-listed Bay of Kotor (Europe’s southernmost fjord) and the baroque village of Perast, with free time for swimming or visiting the Our Lady of the Rocks island (separate expense). If preferred, upgrade to extend the tour with a visit to the coastal town of Budva.

Start time

08:00 am

What To Expect

Begin the tour by getting picked up at your central Dubrovnik hotel, and then head out of the city via comfortable air-conditioned vehicle. Enjoy the view of the Adriatic and the Dubrovnik Riviera as your guide gives you background on the history of Montenegro. After crossing the border, ride along the coast roads, which curve around bay after bay. Admire the beautiful Bay of Kotor, Europe’s southernmost fjord and a UNESCO World Heritage Site. Later, hop out of the van to explore Perast. Stroll the streets and learn about the devastating earthquake that rocked the village in the 1970s, destroying much of the medieval town. Take in some of the Gothic and baroque buildings and then get on a boat to cruise out to a tiny island to check out the Church of Our Lady of the Rocks (at own expense).  After a boat ride back, get back in the van and ride to Kotor. The walled city is a fun stroll. Pop into the Cathedral of St. Tryphon and take some time to explore on your own. If you opted to extend your itinerary, head on to Budva, a walled city on the sea, sort of like a mini Dubrovnik. Drink in the views of the sea and take some time to relax on the beach or enjoy lunch (own expense). After some free time to explore, meet the guide at the prearranged time and start your journey back to Dubrovnik. Enjoy one last delight—a ferry crossing along the Bay of Kotor, if Budva option selected—and then finish your tour in the late afternoon back at your hotel.

Itinerary

Start your day with a pickup from your centrally located Dubrovnik hotel, and then travel out of the city by luxury vehicle. While your private guide drives, sit back and relax, admiring the scenic countryside of Župa Dubrovacka Valley and the Konavle region.

Cross the border to Montenegro and travel along the picture-perfect Montenegro coast, typified by sweeping blonde-sand beaches. Pass the UNESCO-listed Bay of Kotor -- Europe’s southernmost fjord --along the way.

Continue to the neighboring village of Perast, lying at the foot of St Elijah Hill. Much of it was destroyed following an earthquake in the late 1970s, but the gorgeous village still exudes a very Baroque feel with its beautiful villas and churches.

Optionally, take a short boat ride the Our Lady of the Rocks island and admire the art stored inside the small chapel (boat ride fee 10€).

Travel to Kotor, and explore this beautifully preserved medieval town. Learn about the town’s important sailing heritage, having had its own merchant navy under the Byzantine Empire. Visit St Tryphon Cathedral, an elegant Romanesque building.

Soak up the views and then head to the coastal town of Budva for lunch (own expense). Enjoy a couple of hours here at leisure, perhaps relaxing on its famous beaches or strolling around the pretty streets. Meet your driver at the pre-arranged time and start your journey back to Dubrovnik, passing along the scenic coastal roads. Enjoy one last treat– a ferry crossing along the Bay of Kotor – and then finish your tour in the late afternoon back at your hotel.
